Saturday Best Tips & Previews, October 7th

Flemington and Rosehill Gardens host the feature programs this Saturday. The Group 1 Turnbull Stakes is the main event at headquarters, while the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes and Hill Stakes will attract Sydney locals to the western suburbs. Join our experts as they outline their best bets on a Super Saturday of racing!

Flemington Race 5

I Am Unstoppable is ready to win. The I Am Invincible colt has produced two eye-catching performances this campaign, and I suspect a peak performance for the preparation is just around the corner. The Llyod Kennewell three-year-old oozes class and looks to have this third-up assignment at his mercy. He can sit in the box seat from barrier two, and if Zac Spain can get the big boy into clear air before the clock tower, he will prove too strong late. Barber was good without threatening first-up. His second-up record must be respected, and he finds his pet distance on Saturday. Barrier five is advantageous, and the addition of Michael Dee could prove a masterstroke. The Exceed And Excel colt produced blistering sectionals first-up, and he simply doesn’t know how to run a bad race. I am undecided if the Flemington straight will suit his racing pattern and style.  Suggested Bet: I Am Unstoppable @ $3.50

Flemington RACE 7

#2 Goldman

Goldman is ready to peak. Both runs of this preparation have been honest, and he will appreciate stepping out over the longer trip. The Verdi gelding is undefeated at headquarters, and with even luck this campaign, he looks to have a date with Flemington on the first Tuesday in November. He will roll forward from barrier two, and if he can grab a mid-race breather, he will look the winner as they run for the doctor. Over the odds!

Future History is too consistent to dismiss. The Showcasing gelding hasn’t put a foot wrong all campaign, and he deserves his shot at this level. He can camp on the leader’s back from barrier three, and if the gaps appear at the pointy end of the race, he can figure in the finish. I suspect he has the fitness edge on the majority of his rivals, and he has been specked at a price. This is his acid test.

Suggested Bet: Goldman @ $7.00

Flemington Race 8

Romantic Warrior is world-class! The Acclamation gelding is Cox Plate bound, and this first-up assignment looks a mere formality. His best form reads exceptionally well for this event, and only bad luck in running will stop him from featuring in the finish. Since arriving in Australia, his trackwork has been mouthwatering, and we are seriously blessed to have a horse of his calibre on our shores. Push the chips in! Soulcombe has recaptured his mojo after a disappointing autumn preparation. Both runs this campaign have turned heads, and I expect him to produce a career-defining spell. He has already tasted success at the track and seems to grow an extra leg when he enters the long Flemington home straight. The 2000m is ideal third-up from a spell, and he has been absolutely smashed since the markets opened. Big watch!  Suggested Bet: Romantic Warrior @ $2.05

Rosehill Race 5

#1 King’s Gambit

King’s Gambit looked like a drunken sailor running up the Flemington straight fresh. He raced ungenerously and seems more suited to racing in the “Sydney direction”. The 1200m is ideal second-up, and a recent barrier trial will have him cherry-ripe for a tilt at the time-honoured Group 2 event. From the middle gate, he can sit midfield with cover, and if Tommy Berry presses the go button at the right time, I expect him to figure in the finish. His recent winning record is the primary concern.

Ozzmosis is an exciting colt. The undefeated Zoustar three-year-old has further natural improvement to come, and he could be a serious player during the spring and beyond.  He is ready to fly over the 1200m, and he will give a good sight if he can find the bunny during the race’s early stages. The Rachel King and Bjorn Baker combination must be respected, and I suspect the market has framed him over the odds. He could be the real deal!

Suggested Bet: King’s Gambit @ $5.00

Bet Now: Roman Consul Stakes

Rosehill Race 6

#1 Encap

Encap looks well placed in this company. The Capitalist gelding was nailed late in the Group 1 Golden Rose, and the form around him has stood up all campaign. He continues to perform well at the 1400m, and he should get all the favours in the run from a middle draw. The Gary Portelli-trained runner looks one of the better bets on a tricky program.

The Little Pumper is racing in great spirit. The Shalaa gelding won his first two outings this preparation in fine style before being luckless at a crucial stage third-up. The Gai Waterhouse trained galloper has further improvement to come this preparation, and he looks ideally placed in this company over 1400m. He will roll forward from barrier three, and if he left to his own devices on top of the speed, he can lead them a merry dance. Big watch!

Suggested Bet: Encap @ $1.90

Rosehill Race 7

#6 Protagonist

Protagonist has been impressive this preparation without winning. His form around the Group 1 Metropolitan winner reads exceptionally well for this event, and I suspect he is ready to explode third-up from a spell. The Wootton Bassett gelding looks suited dropping back to 1900m, and he should get the run of the race from the perfect inside draw. He looks a great each-way betting proposition.

Numerian is over the odds. The Holy Roman Emperor gelding always gives a good sight on top of the speed, and he will look the winner as they run for the judge. His autumn campaign was first-class, and he performed admirably in the time-honoured Australian Cup. Over the odds!

Suggested Bet: Protagonist @ $7.00
