Celebrate the horse’s birthday in style this Wednesday at Doomben! With the best mid-week racing in Queensland coming to us live from Brisbane’s premier track, this is the perfect way to start the new racing season.
Doomben Race 5
#3 Blazen Boots
Blazen Boots looks poised to strike after two solid outings this campaign. The Tavistock gelding was a brilliant winner fresh, and he was game in defeat second-up from a spell. He should get all the favours in the run from barrier four, and the 3kg apprentice claim could prove the winning difference. The step out in distance is ideal third-up, and I suspect a peak run is on the cards. Hard to toss!
Accessory can run a big race despite jumping from the carpark and needing to carry the grandstand. The Epaulette gelding was good without threatening fresh, and he traditionally races well second-up. The eight-year-old will appreciate the significant drop-in class, and his record at the distance must be respected. He will need some luck in transit!
Poet’s Day is too consistent to dismiss. The Domesday gelding is racing in great spirit, and he looks dangerous jumping from an inside draw. The lightly raced five-year-old is building an impressive career record and deserves his shot at this level. This is his acid test!
Suggested Bet: Blazen Boots @ $2.70

Doomben RACE 6
Baldassare is ready to explode after producing an eye-catching run first-up at the Sunshine Coast. The Snitzel gelding is a winner previously second-up, and he strips fitter here. From barrier two, he can sit close to the speed, and if he can produce his customary turn of foot at the pointy end of the race, I expect him to fight out the finish.
Immoral is racing in great spirit. The Deep Field gelding has been ultra-consistent this campaign, and he has hardly missed the drum all campaign. From barrier nine, he will drift back and watch the race unfold, and if he is within striking distance on turning, he can blouse his opposition late. The length of his campaign could be his undoing.
Jubai Pride can run a big race at a decent price. The Pride Of Dubai mare was pretty close at Gatton first-up, and she should get a cosy run in transit from barrier four. The 3kg apprentice claim is advantageous, and she has been well supported since markets opened. Over the odds!
Suggested Bet: Baldassare @ $2.70

Doomben Race 7
#7 Sebring Girl
Sebring Girl narrowly missed victory first-up at the Sunshine Coast. The Sebring mare savaged the line from the clouds, and she entered most punters’ little black book. The step out to 1350m is ideal second-up, and barrier one gives her the edge over her rivals. If she can get off the rail when they run for the judge, I expect her to figure in the finish.
Extessive will have supporters after an impressive last-start victory at Scone. The Exceed And Excel mare is racing consistently and deserves her shot at this level. The Kris Lees factor will attract market support, and the 55.5kg looks a luxury for a mare in form. The awkward barrier may decide her fate in the first furlong.
Bad Boy Darby is a must for all broader multiples and exotics. The Wandjina gelding is due for a change in fortune, and his form is better than it reads in the guide. The six-year-old can sit midfield with cover, and if the leaders leave the kettle on early, he can make his presence felt late. He will always need luck with his racing style and pattern.
Suggested Bet: Sebring Girl @ $3.10

#5 Saddle Boy
Saddle Boy is knocking on the door! The Tycoon Ruler gelding is coming off a string of narrow losses, and he gets a chance to go one better from the inside draw. His record at the track and distance must be respected, and the 3kg apprentice claim puts one hoof on the till. His recent winning record is the primary concern.
Naval Trader is resuming after a successful debut preparation. The Merchant Navy gelding has shown much promise during the early stages of his career, and he looks to have further natural improvement to come. He has trialled incredibly well leading into this event, and I suspect the camp will have him cherry ripe for a first-up tilt. The class rise is his biggest obstacle.
Yes To Excess is ready to peak. The Rubick mare has hit the line with intent her first two runs this campaign, and she traditionally does her best racing at this stage of her preparation. Her record at the distance is exceptional, and she handles all track conditions. It may pay dividends to watch for any significant market support.
Suggested Bet: Saddle Boy @ $21.00
